NDs attend a 4-year post-graduate medical school accredited by the Council of Naturopathic Medical Education (CNME). They study basic sciences for the first two years include topics like anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, embryology, pathology, neurology, and immunology. The second two years focuses on learning the -ologies (cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, gynecology, radiology, etc) and working under the supervision of licensed naturopathic doctors in a clinical setting, earning at least 1200 clinical training hours in a variety of settings. Throughout their education, NDs are grounded in the Principles of Naturopathic Medicine and learning about the inborn healing power of the human body.

For your first visit, you will spend 60-90 minutes one-on-one with Dr. Blandford so she can learn about you and your health concerns. She takes your mental, physical, and emotional self into consideration during your visit. All of her recommendations are tailored to each one of her clients because health should NOT be one-size-fits-all. After your appointment, Dr. Blandford also sends her clients a recommendations report post-visit including links to relevant research. Her goal is to help you learn how to support yourself naturally and achieve the health you have always wanted. Schedule a free 15-minute consultation to learn more!
Your first acupuncture appointment is 90 minutes long. We will touch on most sections of the form when coming together for your first appointment but will spend most time discussing your chief complaint (e.g. back pain, headaches, GI distress, allergies, anxiety, depression, menstruation pain, menopause, infertility, hypertension, respiratory issues, to name a few). It is important for the acupuncturist to know as much about your condition as possible, as well as concomitant symptoms, in order to form an accurate Chinese medicine diagnosis – also known as the pattern (and there can be more than one). Your practitioner will also ask you the traditional Chinese medicine 10 questions in order to refine this differential diagnosis. Expect to spend between 30-45 minutes simply talking together, followed by a brief physical exam, and concluding with your first treatment. Follow up appointments are 60 minutes in length. This is one of our most frequently asked questions. We do not take any insurance at this time in an effort to keep our costs down. Being contracted with insurance creates a lot more paperwork for our staff, and we’d like to focus on our client’s health goals rather than additional paperwork. Please note that Naturopathic Doctors are not licensed in the State of Michigan. Therefore, they are not eligible to contract with insurance companies.
